Foreign qualification is the process of registering an entity formed in one state to do business in another. The host state generally expects the qualifying company to appoint an in-state registered agent and to keep up with that state's annual reports.
For licensed businesses, qualification is often a prerequisite regulators check before acting on an application. Lining it up early, along with an agent in each new state, keeps a multi-state rollout from stalling on a missing step.
