Depending on the state that means a dedicated residential mortgage servicer license, a license under an RMLA-style mortgage act that covers servicing, or a servicer registration; a few states require nothing servicer-specific. Most applications run through NMLS and carry a surety bond, a net worth minimum, financial statements, and background checks. Companies servicing delinquent accounts may also need collection agency licenses in some states.
