What changed

The law removed an existing licensing exemption, expanding the set of businesses that may need a Maryland mortgage lender or installment loan license.

Compliance perspective

Any business that had relied on the old exemption should confirm whether Maryland licensure is now required and whether filings were completed by the agency's stated date. This is the kind of state change that can create unlicensed activity risk fast if not caught early.
