# Can my registered agent address be my business address?

*Reviewed 2026-07-29*

## Short answer

In most states, yes, your registered agent address can be your business address as long as it is a physical street address in the state and is staffed during business hours to accept documents. Many small businesses list their own office as the registered office. The trade-offs are that the address becomes public and that someone must be present to receive service of process, which can be disruptive if it happens in front of customers.

There is generally no rule against using your business location as the registered agent address, provided it meets the physical-presence standard. A staffed storefront or office with regular hours can work well, since there is reliably someone there to accept a delivery. The state simply needs a real in-state street address, and a business location usually qualifies.

Two practical downsides push some owners toward a separate service. First, the address is public, so listing your business location exposes it in searchable state records. Second, [Service of process](/glossary/service-of-process) can be delivered in person at that address, which means a process server could hand over a lawsuit while customers are present. Businesses that would rather avoid either outcome use a [Commercial registered agent](/glossary/commercial-registered-agent) whose address goes on the record instead.
